It all started in 2020. All of the normal swimming spots in Austin were closed.
Many people began hanging out on the sandbar where Barton Creek spills into the Colorado River.
Dustn’eM was already working on a project to DJ from his paddleboard. This could be a way to engage with Austinites about keeping the water clean and picking up trash. Seeing everyone at the sandbar kicked the project into high gear.
Dustn’eM started putting the idea together and the thought was a micro DJ setup. His first setup was a small DJ controller with a tablet on his paddleboard. Sitting on his ice chest and DJing for up to 5 hours led to tons of fun and a few sunburns. Recognizing the need for shade and more space Dustn’eM designed a new rig on a dock with a canopy for shade. It worked like a charm! From there the rig grew with the gig. Before long, other Aqua-DJs started to join or entertain the island other days Dustn’eM was not there. They all had there different reasons to be part of this special happening but while the world was adjusting everyone there shared many magical moments. DJ Honey would always bring his amazing vibe. He launched part of his local career at Party Island after moving to Austin while all the clubs were closed.
